The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, has urged members of the University Community in particular, and the people of the state in general, to support the Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu-led government in the State.

Prof. Ajibefun, who made the call during a chat in his office on Wednesday, last week, explained that the nation’s prevailing economic challenges require that the people of the State give the new Governor time to settle down to work so he could study the prevailing challenges, especially fiscal matters.

The VC said, “The new government needs our support, understanding and prayers to succeed. And this, we all must do as stakeholders. There is no denying the fact that this is a challenging time for government at all levels. Hence, as a University and citizens of Ondo State, it’s our responsibility to show staunch support for the government. One of the ways to support the new government is to continue to do our work effectively.

“I, therefore, implore all members of the University community and the people of the State to continue to pray for the new Governor. I believe every government is of God. So, it’s our duty as citizens to pray for the government and show support. If we do our work properly, it reduces the stress on government and its activities, especially in the education sector of the State.

“Although the issue of outstanding salaries is hanging, we should give the Governor some time to settle down. I believe this would be one of the issues the government would place premium upon.”
Professor Ajibefun, who expressed confidence in the ability of the Governor to deliver democratic dividends to the people of the state, added that, “Governor Akeredolu is a well-known personality to us, someone who is versed in the art of governance. We harbour no doubt whatsoever about his capabilities. We trust that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear on governance in the state.”

The VC expressed the hope that the governor Akeredolu-led government would build on the achievements of the past administrations in the education sector.

He commended the decision of the Governor to raise a committee to look into ways of resolving the issue of outstanding salaries, noting that it proved that the governor was serious about solving the matter and concerned about the welfare of the workers.
