AAUA VC Meets Staff, Unfolds Five-Year Developmental Plan
-Says it’s Time to Explore New Possibilities
The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has said that his five-year tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of the Institution would be spent on transforming AAUA to an internationally much admired citadel that will be a force to reckon with in the national economy as well as the local environments. Speaking at the maiden staff meeting held on Monday, July 19, 2021, he said his vision would be actualized through a five-year strategic plan that would provide guidelines for the all-round development of the University, including building strategic alliances, upgrading facilities and infrastructures, improving the policy of merit driven admission and employment, and building of academic core values and traditions. According to the Vice Chancellor, “My vision is to transform Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, to a world class; globally recognized University that will promote innovative academic research, programmers and entrepreneurship possibilities that will improve lives and positively contribute, not just to the national economy, but also to the local environment, thus making it more relevant than ever before. “For this mission and vision to be accomplished, a five-year strategic plan is being developed. This will provide guidelines for the development of the University, especially in the area of infrastructural development. “We will build academic core values and traditions that will propel the University to world class status, promote highest standards of academic excellence, and ensure quality assurance to improve on the ratings of the University.” Prof. Ige also said that he would do his best to protect the environment through ‘green belt’ and other micro afforestation projects, adding that efforts would be made to upgrade libraries, laboratories as well as all existing facilities. He reiterated his resolve to staff and students’ development, discipline and welfare, and provide a platform for talents and creativity, while efforts would be made to pursue alternative sources of funds. Specifically, Prof. Ige said the University would mount new programmes in collaboration with agencies like the NDDC, OSOPADEC, and the Amnesty Office with a view of enlarging the revenue base of the University. He added that funds would also be generated through mounting of non-credit courses (seminars and workshops); ancillaries (hostels, refectories, bookstore); endowment, consultancies and research, as well as engaging in commercial activities. The Vice Chancellor affirmed, “I intend to instill discipline in all areas of contact in the University by leading by example. With the support of Council, I will enforce all the laws, rules and regulations of AAUA in the determination to reposition the University. This will enhance the building of a University that will be a reference point in the country and beyond.”
Itaogbolu Agog as Professor Ige Holds Thanksgiving Service
It was amidst pomp and admiration that Itaogbolu in IAkure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nigeria, received guests from all walks of life, who had come to appreciate God with Prof. Olugbenga Ige, a native of the town, who has just been appointed the 6th substantive Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko. The Special Thanksgiving Service which was held at the Saint James’ Anglican Church in Itaogbolu on Sunday, July 25, 2021, was attended by bigwigs, friends and families, colleagues, traditional rulers, clerics, well-wishers, staff and students of AAUA, among others. In his homily, the Archdeacon of Itaogbolu Anglican Communion, Ven. S. A. Sanni, opined that expressing gratitude ‘is the only food humans can give the Almighty’. Quoting from 1Kings 3:6-7, the cleric said those who make gratitude and appreciation their watchwords always get more blessings from God. Ven. Sanni requested for concerted prayers for the Professor Ige-led Management for a successful and remarkable tenure. In his remark, Prof. Ige said his decision to hold the Special Thanksgiving Service was borne out of his heartfelt appreciation to the Almighty God for his elevation to the position of Chief Executive Officer of one of the foremost higher institutions of learning in the country. Prof. Ige, who also said that the Thanksgiving Service was to pray for the required wherewithal to successfully pilot the affairs of the University, specially thanked the Ondo State Governor and Visitor to AAUA, Arakunrin OLuwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for appointing him to serve as the 6th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University. While appreciating all attendees for thanking God with him, he urged members of the University Community to continue to be steadfast and dutiful in carrying out their schedule, promising that he would continue to prioritise their welfare. Also speaking at the event, the Ogbolu of Ita-Ogbolu, Oba Idowu Faborode, thanked the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu-led government for finding one of his subjects worthy of the exalted position. He added that the town would do its utmost to ensure that Prof. Ige has a successful tenure.
