AAUA’s Council Visits Gov. Akeredolu, Appeals for Govt’s Fiscal Intervention

Ondo State Governor and Visitor to Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has appreciated the University authorities for the good work they are doing to grow Institution and for thinking it worthy to pay him a visit.
Governor Akeredolu used the occasion to disclose that his government is perfecting plans to organise an Education Summit that would transform all state-owned institutions in the state.
The University team was led by the Chairman of its Governing Council, Otunba Solomon Oladunni, who used the occasion to appeal to the Governor to intervene in the institution’s financial difficulties.
The Chairman, who congratulated Akeredolu on his inauguration as the 6th elected governor of the State, reeled out the various challenges confronting AAUA and appealed passionately to the governor to intervene.
He said, “We sincerely congratulate you, Mr. Governor, on behalf of the leadership, staff and students of Adekunle Ajasin University. As you are aware, AAUA is presently a leading State University in Nigeria and it’s not resting on its oars. But there are a number of challenges that are confronting the University. Chief among these is financial.
“Though it’s common knowledge that the nation’s economy is in distress, we are appealing passionately to you to kindly intervene in resolving these challenges so that the University can continue to soar.”
The Institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, expressed confidence in the ability of the governor, noting that Akeredolu’s pedigree and leadership credentials speak volumes of what he can do in his new capacity as the Chief Executive of the State. He added that the University is ready to key into the development programmes of the Arakunrin Akeredolu-led government.
He said, “We are not unaware of your achievements in the previous leadership capacities that you had held in the past, and your pedigree and leadership credentials are not obscure. As a University, we are prepared to key seamlessly into the development programmes and plans of your government. We pray that God will abide with you in your earnest pursuit to take the state to the next level.”
Prof. Ajibefun also praised the Deputy Governor, Barr. Agboola Ajayi, for “being a worthy partner to the Governor in his resolve to develop the State.”
AAUA Don, Student, Others, Receive Role Model Award
A gender-equality advocate and Dean of Faculty of Education of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Nireti Duyilemi, and a Postgraduate student of the Institution, Mrs. Florence Ojogo, were among 16 notable women who were honored with the 2017 Ondo State Female Role Model Awards by the Hero Magazine in conjunction with the No Woman, No Nation Organization.
The event took place at Akure last weekend.
The Publisher of the Magazine, Dr. Sunday Akinbiola, in his address, said the essence of the annual event was to recognize people and institutions that have made serious positive impacts on the society in the year under review, adding that the 2017 awardees have distinguished themselves in their various endeavours.
He said, “Our awardees are being honoured today in recognition of their enviable personal accomplishments and outstanding contributions to the society.”
Speaking after receiving her award, Prof. Duyilemi thanked the organizers for honouring her, adding that the award would continue to spur her to contribute to humanity, especially the empowerment of the girl-child and women.
Also speaking, Mrs. Ojogo, an Entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer of Sarah Bulous Fashion and Design Ent. Ltd., appreciated the organizers for recognizing her modest contributions to the society.
