You are welcome to the Academic Planning Unit of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko Ondo State. The Unit (APU) is one of the Units in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. Among her main responsibilities includes obtaining, relevant and accurate data for processing and/or for generating relevant information to guide university management for accurate and timely decision making on university matters. Information about the Unit The Academic Planning Unit is located within the ground floor of the Senate Building of the University close to the Eastern gate. The office provides a range of management information and planning support to facilitate informed decision – making, planning and policy formulation, and the overall strategic development of the University. The office is the initial point of contact on matters relating to statistical collections. The office also supplies statistical information to government agencies and a range of parties throughout the wider community. According to NUC brief, NUC/AP/89 of May 20 1999, Academic Planning and Control Unit was established in Nigerian Universities in the early 1980s. The role of the Academic Planning Unit is to provide timely and accurate information to the University for planning and managerial decision-making, administer key University investigative research into areas of needs, coordinate compliance reporting activities and guide the management in decision- making efforts.

Our Roles

Mission

In carrying out its responsibilities, the Academic Planning Unit:
• Produces a range of institutional statistics and undertakes data manipulation, analysis and interpretation to convert raw data into useful management information.
• Compiles and analyse statistical data for use in general planning, strategic and analysis planning, budgeting, sundry management requirement and repository
• Prepares academic brief for internal and external purposes
• Monitors resources allocation and utilization in line with the plans of the university
• Develops resources allocation parameter
• Determines manpower needs, control and staff development
• Prepares annual plans of the university for submission to government.
• Provision of data-based information on various aspect of the university operations
• Undertakes planning – related investigations and studies.
• Prepares University budget estimates
• Coordinates defrosting of positions and recruitment exercise
• Coordinates teaching and research equipment grants
• Determines allocation parameter of Direct Teaching Laboratory Cost (DTLC) to academic departments and units
• Coordinates accreditation programmes of the University.
• Provides close monitoring of the University programmes so as to maintain the quality of our programmes and effective service delivery.
• Annual updating, projections, analysis and interpretation of data for the planning and preparation of University budget.
• Keeping up to date records on the accreditation status of all academic programmes in the University
• Ensuring that self-study Forms for all academic programmes due for NUC Accreditation are completed correctly and all the necessary information required are provided.
• Ensuring that only programmes with NUC’s approved Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) are allowed to run in the University.
• Analysis and interpretation of the university’s annual and trend statistics;
• Publication of the University records, statistics, and research reports as may be directed or approved by the Vice-Chancellor
The Academic Planning Unit (APU) of the Adekunle Ajasin University also produces several reports each year. These include Annual statistics, the University System Annual Review Recurrent Estimate, Academic Brief, etc. These reports are designed to guide the University Administration’s internal management decisions. .

Director’s Profile Prof. Olukayode AFOLABI was appointed the Director of Academic Planning Unit, Adekunle Ajasin University on August 1, 2023. He is a distinguished professor of Pure and Applied Psychology. He has successively served in many capacities such as; Head, Department of Pure & Applied Psychology, Dean, Faculty of Social & Management Sciences, Director, Centre for Basic & Part-Time Studies (CBPTS), Director, Leadership Institute, Director, General Studies Unit to mention a few. Owing to his diligence in the discharge of his duties, he has served as either Chairman or member of several University committees among which are Academic Programmes Committee, Committee on the Establishment of Basic Studies Programmes, Development Committee, Senate Committee on Computer Based Questions (CBQ), Senate Committee on Results’ Administration, Curriculum Review Committee, University Ceremonies Committee, and a host of other committees. He is the current President and Fellow of, the Nigerian Psychological Association. He was recently elected into the Council of the Pan African Psychology Union (the umbrella body for all psychologists in Africa). He has attended many conferences, workshops and seminars at home and abroad. He is reputable for hard work, excellent service and he is meticulous in dealing with official matters. He is an international figure with respect to Academic Planning, Budgeting and psychological services. His hobby includes reading, writing, listening to music and making friends. He is happily married with wonderful Children.
