Centre For Space, Energy and Environmental Research.

Welcome Message

Centre for Space, Energy and Environmental Research (CSEER) is poised to properly position Adekunle Ajasin University for leading and cutting-edge research in the globally competitive research world and attract research grants from national and international donor agencies.

I believe that my biggest responsibility as a Director is to position CSEER to thrive in the future by actively focus on extensive promotion of benefits it can offer and be offered. To fund catalogues of new projects is germane. As we receive less support from agencies, we need more from the University and industry to keep our work ethic glowing, results – oriented and inspirational.

I welcome everyone to the centre. Everyone’s suggestions count as to what CSEER is doing well and what we can do better. I look forward to them.

About the Centre

In 2008, the centre was founded and named the Centre for Space, Energy and Environmental Research in the University. The centre is dedicated to research in the three critical areas – Space, Energy and Environment which are increasingly relevant to the global community.

The centre was intended to be a centre of excellence in advanced and inter-disciplinary research relating to the three key areas of study which disseminates its findings to the global world on a continuous basis.

The Centre is poised to harness the research, knowledge and expertise of seasoned and distinguished scientists in academics and other related areas to help improve understanding and promote the management of space, energy and environment in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

MOU and Collaboration with Agencies

(i). MOU between the University Centre and National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) on a new project is in the pipeline.

(ii). Also, SAISKA MEC TECHNOLOGIES has been a very good collaborator engaged to promote indigenous technology through sustainable researches that span across different areas of human endeavours.

(iii). The Centre is a basic requirement for the research collaboration with the CBSS. The Centre’s environmental section will also be required to conduct research on various environmental pollutions currently posing serious threats to health in both the Urban and Rural areas of Nigeria.

(iv). The energy requirement of the world is increasing at an astronomical rate and scientists are in continual search for new energy sources. Some Scientists and Researchers in the University are already working on developing alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, biogas and geothermal. The Centre is needed in order to harness and harmonize the various research efforts of scientist and engineer researchers working on these alternative energy sources with a view to bringing out results.

Needs/Requirements for Optimum Performance

Understanding that Agriculture is a dominant occupation of the people of Ondo State especially cocoa, providing income and employment opportunities for over seventy-five per cent of the population; recognising the role of Space Science and Technology as bedrock for sustainable Agricultural development necessary for socio-economic and industrial development of Ondo State and enhancement of the quality of life of its people in the Rural Urban Areas; realising that there is increase demand for agricultural products caused by population growth, thus, for sustainable optimum cocoa production in Ondo State, there is need for the use of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) techniques which will help on the establishment/equipment of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) laboratory in the University for the analysis of the Data Collection for the continuity of the project.

However, the Centre is in its new building complex with laboratories dedicated for the three key areas of research – space, energy and environmental. The Centre requires robust grant/funds for research to facilitate the implementation of projects.

Our Roles

Objectives

Performance Targets in short, medium and long term:

(i) To achieve smooth running of the Centre where good researches are rewarded by funding.

(ii) To revitalize research activities in the centre and take research to a greater height.

(iii) To promote staff/students’ development through capacity building and training.

(iv) To seek for grants from relevant and donor Agencies to prosecute research projects.

(v) To publish and present findings for both local and international audience in high impact factor journals

(vi) To organize conference, workshop, exhibition to showcase findings and attract  both local and international attendance.

(vii) To provide a mission oriented consultancy service in the three key areas of study.

Accomplishments/Achievements

(i). The Centre has coordinated the National Space Research and Development Agency and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (NASRDA/AAUA) joint project on “Sustainable Optimum Cocoa production using Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) Techniques”.  The research pulled together seasoned plant and earth scientists, and other scientists in the field of space and environmental sciences in the university.

(ii). The Centre is also required to coordinate activities of Nigerian Environmental and Climate Observation Programme (NECOP). NECOP is a collaborative project between the University and the Centre for Basic Space Science – a subsidiary Agency of NASRDA. Under this project, the Centre for Basic Space Science (CBSS) has installed equipment worth several millions of naira in the University while the University provided only the installation fund. The University through the use of the equipment can now participate in the Nigerian Environmental and Climate Observation Programme (NECOP) which is a global research network on the atmospheric and climate data generation for educational and research purposes. The equipment is currently functioning and providing real time data on various environmental and climatic parameters.

(iii).  Exhibition and Presentation of Posters at University Convocations.

(iv). Publication of numerous research findings in reputable and high impact factor  international scientific journals across the globe.

(v). Capacity building/training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the use of relevant apps softwares in the Centre.

(vi). Design and construction of a digitized telemetry weather monitoring station

(vii). Design and implementation of Mini FM transmitting station on Campus

(viii). Research proposals in the field of space, energy and environmental endeavours.
